Textual and visual matter made available in this section is in constant movement. Even if I reproduce here some of my peer-reviewed texts that have been published in open-access journals, I profit from the possibilities of the electronic medium to introduce subsequent developments and enrich my texts with original photography and digital art that is for me a parallel line of thinking on the topics exposed. In other cases, I offer an insight in the fragmentariness and flow of the work-in-progress, as I progressively search to clarify an initial idea. My intellectual passion, and the uttermost point of my research program consists in examining the human on the brink of the cultural. She explores the insufficiency, incapacity or discomfort of a complete immersion of creative individual in culture as a semi-automatic system of meaning (re)production. At the end of the road, I have in view a theory of man not as a maker, but first of all as a transgressor of culture, striving to achieve an extracultural condition of authenticity, comfort and intimacy laying beyond the perimeter of culturally predetermined constraints and servitudes. In his or her extracultural becoming, the transgressor may invest in solidarity with non-cultural forms of being, such as animals, plants, inanimate objects, as well as atmosphere, place, space, emptiness. Wishing to know more about the history of cultural dissatisfaction and transgression, I have developed, among other research points, an interest in pre-modern and early-modern attempts at "recovering" the pre-lapsarian, Adamic tongue and so-called language of angels. I interpret the question of Adamic tongue, debated throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, as an early attempt at conceptualising the primordial, a-cultural condition of man, projected onto the times of paradisiacal beginnings. I have also explored several other experimental concepts, such as that of topological approach to the symbolic space - a quasi-mathematical matrix of all possible forms of creation and expression. Attempting to understand or express whatever happens to us, we are moving across that matrix, encompassing the expressible and the inexpressible parts of human experience. As I tried to imagine how we could communicate beyond the Wittgensteinian frontiers of language, I considered, just to give an example, the experiments of the Japanese dancer Min Tanaka. The venture of building up strange theories of that kind is a risky one, requiring frequent reformulations, changes in vocabulary, contradictory intellectual choices. This is why this site, permitting me to delate as quick as write down my insights and intuitions, is for myself in the first place as mush as for any potential readers. It is a tool of constant rearrangement of my experiments in search of articulation and precision in conveying the meaning both in verbal and non-verbal moods. It is a process stretching over months and years, and for months and years these sections remain unfinished and open. I revisit them in turn, often adding spare sentences or images as they come to me. It is a slow, plant-like growth that characterizes everything that comes from beyond the paradigm. I work with my personal experience, starting from the simplest, the most immediately accessible elements of my destiny, trying to build up complexity and novel insight beyond the paradigm. Whatever is culturally transmitted, also the ability of writing standard academic papers, forms a shortcut and a ready-made. It offers an instantaneous access to other people's experience accumulated and articulated in the past; such experience forms models and provides reusable material. But the access to this accumulated capital is only possible because the risk of the inner exploration had once been assumed. The cultural grows fractally in the extracultural, infinitesimally encroaching over the territories of uncharted, unexpressed experience. At the same time, autonomous exploration and the constant search for the vital stem at the centre of whatever is culturally transmitted permits to overcome the shortcomings of the cultural, the errors of transmission, the lies and delusions inscribed in cultural messages that we go on repeating thoughtlessly only at our own risk and peril. |
